Summer 2026 EV Tips: Safeguarding Your Electric Car Battery from High Temperatures
As temperatures rise throughout India this April, here are the top 5 essential strategies to maintain your EV's range and safeguard its battery in intense heat.

The Summer Dilemma for EVs
With April temperatures soaring past 40 degrees in various regions of India, electric vehicle owners are confronting a significant challenge: the heat.
Elevated temperatures compel your EV's Thermal Management System (TMS) to work harder to maintain battery temperature, which can drain power and noticeably affect your driving range.
1. Pre-Condition Your EV While Charging
One of the best ways to preserve range is by 'pre-conditioning' your vehicle's cabin. Use the mobile app to activate your car's AC 10-15 minutes before you head out, while it's still charging.
This allows the cabin to cool using electricity from the grid rather than the battery, ensuring you leave your home with both a full charge and a comfortable interior.
2. Avoid Charging to 100% Under Direct Sunlight
Lithium-ion batteries do not perform well when left at 100% charge in the sun. If you must park outdoors during the heat of the day, try to limit your charge level to 80% to alleviate stress on the battery.
Whenever possible, prefer to charge overnight when the temperatures are much cooler.
3. Keep an Eye on Your Tire Pressure
Heat can cause the air in your tires to expand quickly. Over-inflated tires can reduce grip and cause uneven wear, while under-inflated tires can significantly increase rolling resistance and diminish your range.
Make it a habit to check your EV's tire pressure system (TPMS) weekly and maintain it at the manufacturer's recommended level for safe summer driving.
